People in Branik produce wine for over 1000 years. There
are many small family run wineries. Since very recently some of them started
to produce world top quality wines and are gaining the respected
recognition. Each winery has something special to offer to you.

Grapes in Branik are still
all harvested by hand!!! Most local people have a little wineyard that was
in the family for centuries. They still make their wine the same exact way
as their ancesters were making it. This wine is just for their home consumption.
When you will visit the villages, you will notice each old house has a small
family wine cellars. People will be proud to invite you in to see the fermentation.
There will be for example year 1856 carved on the stone arch entering the
wine celler. And you will notice that all remained intact as it was a 150
years ago. People will be using same tools, the same kind of wooden casks,
moving grape skins with their hands while fermenting, making their wine as
their ancesters did, using the same exact metods and procedures. The floor
of the cellar will be the original floor, same as the wood beams above you
and stone walls arround you... You will feel like being in a museum. Like
you made a step back in time. 
Most produce merlot and malvasia wines. But as well; white and blue pinot,
zelen (means green, a Slovenian variety of white wine) as well as rebula,
sauvignons, barbera, chardonnay, rieslings (italic and ren),
refosk.
They also produce liqueurs with home produced fruit and
honey.

If you phone in advance, they can prepare for you a meal
to go with the tasting. Their specialty is prosciutto – ham, salami and cheese
plates.

Some farmhouses also prepare gourmet local cuisine
lunches and dinners to go with their wine and liqueurs.
Peach orchards are most numerous. If you visit Branik in
July or first part of August, you will see them selling their peaches on a
table by the road, right in front of their orchard.
